Chuck Cummings

Charles Patrick Cummings was born in Richland on December 7, 1953 to William and Victoria Cummings. He passed away at the age of 51 in Olympia on May 16, 2005. He was buried at Woodlawn Cemetery in Lacey, WA.

He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia; and children: Jennifer (a freshman at the University of Washington) and Tyler (a sophomore at River Ridge High School). He is also survived by his "Mom Fran"; sisters, Billie and Pam ('80 honorary); and brothers, Mike (HHS) and Rick ('73).

Known to his friends and family as "Chuck", he moved from Richland in 1959 to Pleasanton, CA where he finished his primary education. In 1968 he moved to Los Alamos, NM where he stayed until 1970 when his family returned to Richland. He has been a permanent resident of Washington State for the past thirty-five years.

Chuck graduated from Richland's Columbia High School in 1972 as class Valedictorian with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average. He was also named as the Scholar-Athlete for the school in 1972, lettering in tennis. He graduated Cum Laude with a B.S. in Biology from the University of Washington in 1976. He also attended the University of Washington Medical School for over 2 years.

He was employed the last 19 years with the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services, during which he held positions as Medicaid Fraud Investigator, Medical Program Specialist for the Department of Corrections and finally as the Manager, Office of Payment and Review and Audit.

Chuck enjoyed participating in tennis and golf, and watching all types of sports. He was a particularly avid fan of the University of Washington Huskies, Oakland Raiders, San Francisco 49ers, San Francisco Giants and of course every sports team from Seattle.

His greatest joy was being involved in his own children's sports programs as both a mentor and a fan. A very private person, Chuck dedicated his time to his family and close friends.

Chuck will always be remembered by his family as a dedicated husband and father. Always game for adventure, he led his family on travels throughout the western United States. He will be remembered by his co-workers as a brilliant auditor and analyst dedicated to his profession, supervisors and subordinates.
