Karl Raymond Leitenberg was received into the loving hands of God on August 12, 2009. He was a faithful member of the Apostolic Christian Church.

He was born in Richland on August 9, 1952. He attended school there, graduating in 1972 from Richland's Columbia High School. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed and excelled in track. He also was an accomplished singer in the school choir who also recorded an exceptional album.

Karl worked and lived in Richland and touched the lives of so many people. His humor and strength brought the best out of anyone he met. He was an inspiration to all who knew the difficulties he endured the last few years of his life. He never gave up in his belief in God and showed his remarkable character till the end. His humor and compassion was such a gift, and he will be surely missed.

He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Raymond Leitenberg on May 20, 2009; his mother, Jean Grace Leitenberg on November 6, 2005; and his Uncle Bill.

He leaves behind his sisters: Debbie Leitenberg Munroe ('68) and Linda Leitenberg Bartlett Darr ('72); brothers, David Leitenberg ('74) and Jeff Leitenberg ('75 or '76 honorary); nephews, Christopher (Melissa) Monroe and Nicholas (Holly) Monroe; niece, Rachel Bartlett and a whole community who truly loved him. The family would like to mention his close friend, Earl Echols, and caretaker, Jolene Schmeider.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Apostolic Christian Church; 1749 Stevens Drive; Richland, WA 99352.

A graveside service was held on Saturday, August 15, 2009 at 10:00am at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Richland. A memorial service followed at 11:00am at the Apostolic Christian Church in Richland.
