Peter Henry "Pete" Swift, 34, of Yakima and Richland, died in an automobile accident April 21, 1988. He was born in Richland on June 23, 1963, to Betty and Ward Swift.

Peter grew up in Richland. He graduated from Richland's Columbia High School in 1972 and then attended Columbia Basin College.

He was employed at Battelle Northwest Laboratories, most recently as a Senior Technician in the Geochemistry section of the Environmental Sciences Department.

Peter married Shawn Marie Schuchart ('78) on October 10, 1981, in Richland; they divorced in 1983.

Peter had a lifelong enthusiasm for flying, both as a private pilot and as a builder and flier of radio controlled models. He was also a scuba instructor and photographer.

He is loved and remembered by his mother, Betty; sisters, Barbara ('70) and Hally (HHS); brother, Ted; and his fiancée, Paula Wright; and her son, Dan.

He was preceded in death by his father who passed away at the age of 52 on August 17, 1981.

Memorial services were held at Central United Protestant Church on April 30, 1988. The family suggests contributions be made to the Habitat for Humanity at P. O. Box 277 in Buena, WA 98921. Their phone number is 509-829-6885.

He was buried in British Columbia, Canada.
