Janice Harvey

Janice Elaine Harvey Griffin

Janice, my beloved wife, passed away quietly in her sleep in the early morning of March 1, 2010 due to stroke-related complications after a long illness.

Janice was born at Kadlec Medical Center on November 29, 1953 to Roland A. Harvey and Aune S. Marttila Harvey. Janice was the third of four children; she had two older brothers and a younger sister. She spent her early years attending Richland schools until she met and married her first husband Robert Dunlap, at age 20.

They left the Tri-Cities area and traveled widely throughout the Southwest including periods living in Texas, Colorado, Arizona and visits to nearby states. On September 10, 1977 she gave birth to her only daughter, Shaune Dunlap, in Denver, Colorado. She and her daughter returned to the Tri-Cities area in late 1977 and Janice began working at various jobs locally, including several years managing the local shelter for abused and battered women. In the mid-1990s she went back to college and graduated from CBC in June 1999, with an A.A. Degree in Human Services so that she could begin counseling people with drug and alcohol dependencies.

I met and fell in love with Janice in late 1993 and also returned to school with her.

We were married on July 25, 1998. We were blessed with the birth of Janice's granddaughter, Niisa Dunlap, on May 12, 1994 and twin grandsons to Shaune, on June 24, 2008. Shaune, Niisa and the twins were always the light of Janice's life.

On October 3, 1999 Janice suffered a major stroke, which left her paralyzed on the left side of her body. She attacked her disability with the same determination she showed throughout her life. Janice crowded a lifetime of experiences into her 56 years and now she is at peace with her oldest brother, Roland Alan Harvey Jr ('67); and her mother, Aune Harvey.

Janice is survived by her father, Roland A. Harvey; her uncle and aunt, Richard and Kelly Harvey; her aunt and uncle, Dot Jack Yapp; her brother, Eric Harvey '72); sister, Carol Harvey Yearout ('77); daughter and son-in-law, Shaune and Charles Salter; granddaughter, Niisa Dunlap; grandsons, Jaydin and Jaycob Salter; and two nephews, Jonathan Yearout and Elijah Harvey.

Also she is survived by numerous cousins from her mother's and father's relatives. Lastly she is survived by me, her forever loving husband, Roger A. Griffin.

A memorial service was held at Richland Lutheran Church, 901 Van Giesen at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, March 5, 2010.

Einan's handled the inurnment of her ashes with her mother and brother an Sunset Memorial Gardens.
